Frequently Asked Questions

How are you different?

We limit the number of clients per portfolio manager which means our portfolio managers have time to focus on what matters to you, and we rebate a portion of our profits above a threshold back to clients via lower fees which further aligns us with our clients.  In addition, we tend to invest directly, rather than through funds. This means you don’t pay additional costs to third party fund managers, and you have a clear view on the positions in your portfolio.

Who will my primary contact be?

You will have a named portfolio manager who will be your first point of contact and responsible for building your portfolio with the assistance of the rest of the team.

Do you have a minimum investment amount?

Unfortunately, we can’t take on clients with less than £1 million in assets.  Depending on your needs we may not be good value for amounts above this size and will be happy to introduce you to other investment managers who can help you if this is the case.  If in doubt, please ask!

What does it cost?

This depends on your requirements but typically the main fees include an investment management fee (paid to Ptarmigan Capital), a custody fee to maintain the bank account where the assets are held, and execution fees charged by the custody bank to trade.  Should we invest in a fund on your behalf, you also pay the fund’s fees.  This is why we prefer not to use funds unless absolutely necessary. Please get in touch with us at contact@ptarmigancapital.co.uk so we can better understand your requirements and provide a detailed cost estimate for you.

How hard is it to switch?

You will need to let your existing provider know you would like to switch, but we can handle the rest for you.

What will my portfolio look like?

Although our operating structure allows us to buy complex investments, we love simplicity.  Given this, for most of our clients we believe buying a combination of fixed income (usually bonds) and equity (shares in companies) is sufficient to meet their investing goals. However, we can and do invest in other assets such as funds, commodities or derivatives if required to meet your objectives.

How have you performed?

We would be delighted to share our performance with you. Please get in touch with us at contact@ptarmigancapital.co.uk so we can better understand your requirements and share the most relevant strategy performance with you.
